Via F5 @ LJ. I think they’ve posted similar questions to these before.
1. Are you named after anyone? If so, explain. I was just telling this to Lucille today. I am named after the actress who played the Bionic Woman, Lindsay Wagner. My parents also have a Sleep Number bed. This shows a slow but disturbing trend.
2. Do you have your children’s names picked out already? If so, is there any significance? I like the name Alyssa. Names of saints and biblical characters are also usually fine by me.
3. If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name have been? I had never asked that before I read that question. So I found my mom. Her reply? “You’re talking twenty years ago!” (I’m so old.) I would have been Kyle. I like that name.
4. If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why? I love my name. It took a while, but I got attached to it (beyond learning to answer to it, of course). Oh! I went through a phase where I wanted to change my name to something that started with a K. And now I know about Kyle. The subconscious is a scary place.
5. Are there any mispronunciations/typos that people do with your name constantly? My name is pretty much built for “creative” spellings. It’s usually a toss-up with Lindsey, but I’ve also seen Linzi/Lynzi, and Lynsey.
I got an email from Michelle today. They wound up cancelling the CSC t-shirt design contest. They’re going with a variation of last year’s design. I understand that saving them money is a good thing. I’ve had far too many free meals there to not be grateful. I just wish they’d figured that out sooner. Oh, well. Perhaps the Catholic Daughters would be interested in my Immaculate Heart design.
At work last week, University Honors hired me to work in their office for the fall. It’s crazy how well that worked out. When I finished registration back in May, I had these convenient gaps of time in my Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. “Great,” I thought, “I can get a job!” Honors sent out its usual search for student workers in the listserv, but since they prefer work study, I didn’t apply. Everyone in the office seems to like me, though, so Dr. Thorne asked me if I could possibly fill the gap they still had for a student: Tuesday and Thursday mornings. It was perfect. On top of that, since their summer student is out this week for music camp in CSPAC and gone for good after next week, they asked me to start right away. So I finished my perfect summer job (for which I finally got paid on Friday) and started my perfect fall job. I couldn’t ask for a better situation.
I went to visit my old piano teacher, yesterday. She’s still a bit eccentric, but generally a cool person to be around. She showed me this new massage chair she bought; she’s big on gadgets. It looked scary, but in a relaxing way. We spent some time catching up. I talked about school, she talked about her research into music performance theory and her latest advanced religious degrees. When I called her last Thursday to see if I could stop by, she was in Minnesota giving a speech. Sometimes I think she’s on a mission to take over the world through insurance, music, and alternative medicine.
Today was my first official day working for Honors. It’s slow during the summer, and I can only do what they tell me to, so I had a lot of time to kill–and a computer. Rajni pointed me toward Jigsawdoku, and I immediately got hooked. I’ve never played Sudoku before, and never even been interested. I blame its being on the computer and colorful. It’s a good way to kill time, though. One can only play so many rounds of solitaire before one starts to lose one’s mind.
